whether you conservatives like it or not oil is the life blood of the U.S. economy ,and that of the world ,and when the U.S. economy is felled by idiotic conservative policies, beliefs ,like not taxing road hog subs the people they champion, the poor will be the first to suffer hardest, and longest,no jobs for the poor,no jobs for the middle class,no products to be sold by the rich,no tax`s to taken from the working american to be given to con/repugnent.,voters know what conservative ,it seems your beliefs will finally bring the american nation to an end, conservative beliefs brought the roman empire to its destruction,it seems as consevative beliefs will bring the american nation to its destruction as well!,. the roman empire was once a republic meaning it had a congress that ran a fair system of laws but then came the Emperor who destroyed their consistution and wanted more power and that started the fall and the beginning of the dark ages of no public works project that made them,Why do conservatives not understand oil is the life of a nation? and stop the oil tax and tax gas hogs???????
A real CONSERVATIVE would favor whatever was necessary to CONSERVE the precious and dwindling oil resources of the world. Even if that meant raising taxes to reduce consumption and even if that meant a little hardship now (in return for less hardship in the future). Why do conservatives not understand oil is the life of a nation? and stop the oil tax and tax gas hogs???????
They understand it perfectly well, that's why we are in Iraq. The price of oil will continue to go up and at some point people will start changing their behavior...especially when it runs out in 20 years or so.
PS The Roman Empire wasn't brought down by conservative beliefs -- the conservatives in Rome helped bring the Roman REPUBLIC to an end. Julius Caesar brought down the conservatives in Rome and started the process where more people were made citizens, freedman, foreigners and lower class people were brought into the government. The government under the republic was not as you described, it was corrupt and run mainly by and for the benefit of the upper classes, who held most of the power. The Empire lasted for 500 years in the west and almost 1500 years in the east.
We do understand. We have enough oil off the shores of California and the Gulf of Mexico to run this country for decades without importing a single drop of oil.
Unfortunately, a few years ago Democrats successfully sued to stop the drilling for oil off of the coast of California.
Having a secure supply of oil is a national security issue.
Edit: There is also nearly a trillion barrels of oil locked in shale rock in the Rockies. China, Brazil, and other countries have been successful in extracting oil from shale. Dutch researchers from Shell Oil are currently working in American Rockies on a new process for shale oil extraction.
Why don't the Democrats realize it and allow us to drill where we need to, build atomic power plants and use coal? Don't blame the Republicans, it was the Liberals that made up the BS about the President's comprehensive energy policy back in 2001. If you want to see an oil tax, let a Democrat get into the WH, considering that the first move a liberal makes is to either raise gas taxes or lay a stupid ';windfall profits'; tax on. Something that get passed on to the consumer in a heart beat.
They do understand, that's who is getting rich from it!
They aren't real conservatives. A Real con dosen't believe in tax except to supply the military.
conservatives DO understand oil is the life blood of our coutry thats we have been at war since Sept 11 to secure more oil
its the liberals that do not understand this they want us to pull out of the Mid East with out realizing what would happen if this country quit oil cold turkey..

Why isn't the government putting stop to oil speculation?
I'm so sick and tired of people saying on the news all the time that the current high price of oil is due to supply and demand. That is total b.s. as the world has plenty of oil to meet demand right now. However, if the Wall Stree Journal mentions that it ';predicts'; oil will go to $200/barrel, the next day the prices skyrocket. It's pretty obvious to me and a lot of other people what's going on here....it's the speculators and people like the Wall Street Journal driving prices.....I know we're supposed to have a free market and all in this country, but this is one area where we need to put our foot down and put a stop to it.Why isn't the government putting stop to oil speculation?
Not BS: It's supply and demand. Speculation goes up and down. Speculators can only effect the price slightly because other speculators would take advantage if the price was over inflated. Why isn't the government putting stop to oil speculation?
Ya!
Stop it in all countries.
How we do dat?

Why won't the Democrats stop playing politics and let us drill for oil now?
Voting them out of office is the only answer, start wit Nancy P Why won't the Democrats stop playing politics and let us drill for oil now?
The oil companies can drill right now but they prefer not to. They have no incentive because they are doing fabulously well with high prices. Did you see their latest quarterly earnings reports?
What the oil companies want is more public land to stockpile with the millions of acres of land that they already have under their control and while the Republicans will give them anything they want, the Democrats are resisting on common sense grounds. Why won't the Democrats stop playing politics and let us drill for oil now?
Because even if the oil companies didn't have millions of untapped acres already and even if they would pledge to sell the oil they drill in the US, and even if there was no way that another huge environmental disaster like the Valdez spill could happen and even if oil were not a finite resource that we need to think about getting off of anyway and even if every Republican in office above dogcatcher is in the pockets of the oil lobby and even if John McCain was against drilling before he was for it-
Even if all of that was not the case, if you sink drills today, the impact on gas prices will be as follows:
Somewhere between 2020 and 2030, you will pay a whopping 20 cents less per gallon.
Remember, everyone, this is the guy who is still trying to talk up the Gas Tax Holiday, which will save you like 5 cents a gallon and remove a lot of infrastructure.
Both proposals are similar in that they appear to be doing something, but in reality don't help nearly as much as they will hurt.
Big Oil ALREADY has 1000's of land leases to drill their little hearts out. Are they drilling? No. Would they start drilling if they were given 1000 more leases? No. Supply and demand, my friend. Flood the market with oil and the price goes down and they may go from 11 billion profit a quarter to 9 billion. Don't be fooled by election year Repug cries for more drilling, soothing the worries of the mis-informed and ignorant. Which are you? Both?
Not only the democrats but the Republicans also. Each had their turn to do something.I don't know what all the fuss is about. their has been drilling in Louisiana for years and it is known as the sportsman's paradise. I lived their all my life and all sorts of animal and plant life thrive their. The argument about endanger species etc do not hold water. As for oil spills we have had our share and guess what it always comes back to where it was before. Nancy Pelosi and the dems are totally wrong, I agree that we need alternatives but until then lets use what we have. Bring down the futures market by allowing the drilling and then lets go with the oil man T-bone Pickens he wants to make money in the future he has the right ideas. If we don't drill offshore the Chinese are planning to drill in international waters off our coast. Then we will have to give more of our money to the Chinese for their oil.
Wait a second you dimwit. If it was so gall dang important why didn't Bush try to get this done when all his republican lackeys had a majority in Congress from 2000 to 2006? Easy answer, because it s really not that important, except of course when you're trying to convince morons to vote for another 4 years for a morally bankrupt party, with no plan and no vision.
we are drilling for oil now you dim-wit
Fact :
The United States is the Worlds Third (3rd) largest petroleum producer,
though it has only the 12th largest crude reserve.
next time you put a statement in a question make sure it is correct first !
or are you just playing politics ?
if so - shame on you.
2 reasons:
1. It won't do a damned bit of good for at least 10 years. Even Bush, McSame, Big Oil, and pretty much everyone on the right will admit this when pressed.
2. Big Oil are currently sitting on 68,000,000 acres of Federal oil leases that they refuse to exploit now. Why give them a bigger piece of the National Pie to squat on??
The answer is simple, because drilling for oil will not make an immediate impact on the the daily lives of average Americans. Take ANWR for an example. Even if we did drill there, the country doesn't have the refining capacity to turn it into oil. On top of that, according to the experts that I have seen on t.v. and have heard on various CONSERVATIVE radio talk shows, it would only impact by a few cents anyway. The republicans are trying to use this as a wedge issue because they know that the average American voter is ignorant and will believe just about anything they're told to believe, ergo the so called war on terror
Consider this one way to resolve the oil situation is an army demolition team at every major commercial airport in The U.S.A. After draining the jet fuel out of jets they army can then blow up the airports and end the problem once and for all. Other means hiring auto thieves to help bring cars to chop shops. This reminds a person of a film called The City which Ate Cars.
We should make cars that run on air or water. No more oil drilling. It's polluting the air and water and everything else~ If the north pole and the south pole melted, 1/3 or the earth will be under water, and you want to drill on north pole? That's insane!
These Democrats are OWNED by the far-left environmentalist lobbies, and they WILL NOT allow any progress to be made on this issue. Why? Because their goal is to destroy our economy, and have us all riding around on solar-powered skateboards.
The Democrats are not listening to any one about oil solutions. They been sleeping since they got control of congress. We have to show them how much we appreciate their promises and vote them out. They just say and don't do.
Nobody is stopping you from drilling. Big Oil has hundreds of thousands of acres under lease... they don't want to increase their drilling and refining.
Haven't you figured that out yet?
Because the idea that drilling for oil is a solution is just a political ploy. No evidence supports the claim.
Because they have to cater to enviromentalist that won't allow the companies to drill becasue they fear another oil spill.
They're not ';playing politics'; - they're on vacation.
because many of their supporters are environmentalists, and they need to keep them happy so they can be president
i really think neither party really has a good candidate this election
Because drilling is a smokescreen, not a viable option.
Add Harry Reid to your list.
The Democrats reckon that the unhappier you are with energy prices and everything else in your life in November, the more likely you are to vote for a Democrat. Hopefully, they will turn out to be incorrect.
they are so overly concerned with the environment that they put it before the interests of the american people. That rat Pelosi says she is ';trying to save the world.';

How do I make my face stop hurting and stop secreting oil from a serious sunburn I just got and I'm in Chile?
Ok so first off, I'm from the states but I'm currently studying abroad in Chile. That being said here's the issue.
Yesterday I went snowboarding in the Andes and didn't wear sunblock (I didn't believe my Chilean mother when she said to do so, learned my lesson)
I got hardcore burnt on my face and my neck (all I wore was goggles and a beanie). Today I woke up in immense pain. My face is bright red (which I can deal with, I know that just takes time) but it HURTS and its SECRETING or pussing what appears to be oil. It's like I'm sweating out of my nose and my cheeks and I have to constantly wipe it. Because of this being in public is quite embarrassing.
Lastly, I'm on medication that says that I shouldn't be in the sun (Minocycline 100mg).
I'm planning on getting 100% aloe for it.
Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas? I can't go to doctors here because it's too expensive. Thanks in advanceHow do I make my face stop hurting and stop secreting oil from a serious sunburn I just got and I'm in Chile?
try and find an aloe plant. if you break off one of the leaves and smooth it on your face it will help a lot. its really messy though so be prepared. My friend has an aloe plant and she says it helps so much.
You may also want to put on a cream after the aloe dries on your skin. When you burn yourself your skin becomes dry and that probably why your pussing....your body is trying to bring moisture to the skin. So just put a moisturizer on after the aloe dries and try to find one with an SPH in it. How do I make my face stop hurting and stop secreting oil from a serious sunburn I just got and I'm in Chile?
I think it's secreting plasma, not oil. that's the ';water'; in your blood. You should go to the hospital, or at least your doctor.
EDIT: sorry, i didn't see that last bit. Try to keep hydrated. And yea, aloe is good.

What can we do to stop this oil from starving us out?
i know a lot of you on this site are younger than i, but, get your parents, grampa, grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins involved in, somehow, stopping this oil from going any higher. i am not kidding. with oil going up, many will lose their job. others will go hungrey b/c they will have to go short on food to get to work. still, some public assistance wont cover b/c of the rising cost, hence, the cost food rises b/c of the transportation of products. this is being close to getting scary. im not to computer savy, so, tell me where and/or to what forum i can go on to publish this. its not right and we cant stand for itWhat can we do to stop this oil from starving us out?
uh...it's a free market economy. It's all well and good to say ';stop it';; the only thing that will is to cut usage.
Supply and demandWhat can we do to stop this oil from starving us out?
Become conservative! If you do not mind spending your hard earned dollar on gasoline, higher costs of food, etc do not conserve.
Too many people want to do many things but so many are so lazy. Look at all those that are overweight!
We are out of shape! Walk , ride a bike, find a cheaper way to get to work. So many cars only have one person in them. Put five to a car and put less cars on the road! Someone will spend less for consumption!
Everyone complains, but until we start using less prices will be high. Try carpooling, riding a bile, or take a bus if available
How about Americans using less gas?
My family has cut our gas usage by at least 50% in the last 2 months. Basically, we stopped driving so much.
We go to town and shop a lot less and we carpool when we can. We budget a certain amount in cash for gas each month and when it's gone, it's gone.
If most Americans did this - changed their spending habits - it might make a huge difference.
Lowering prices won't fix one of the main problems - over consumption and high demand by Americans.
We have the power to decrease our consumption and we're not willing to make sacrifices.
This is the president's responsibilty. I don't see any leadership. It's like a race betweent he federal resever board to cut interest rates bu thtey can't cut them fast enough to counter act the rise in oil prices. it went from 122 to 134 per barllel in what period of time.
We cannot cut consumption fast enough to counter this. and all commodites are shipped by some form of pertolium Oil product.
There isno such thing as a completly ';free'; market economy. I dont know who sold you that crock.
The president is shwoing no leadershiip here. He is good at making war and keeping us militrily secure, but he has no end game.
I think there a mix of several answers is what needs to be done. I've heard many and tried some myself and supported others when I vote.
Things we can do:
1. Ride a bike or walk.
2. Carpool.
3. Live close to work.
4. Drive cars with good MPG.
5. Plan several stops in one drive and go out less.
Things that we can support.
1. Building of more refineries.
2. Oil exploration offshore.
3. Alaskan and midwest oil drilling.
4. Nuclear energy and coal.
5. Research into alternative fuel.
6. Other countries that like us in the creating of Ethanol.
7. Research into fuel efficiency.

Would Steel Seal / Liquid sealants stop engine oil from leaking?
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, just recently it has started leaking engine oil - at a very fast rate. I have a puddle of oil underneath my car and I can see leakage on the engine as well. I can't pinpoint the exact location of the leak at this point.
The car has a damaged head gasket - so I added a liquid sealant to the radiator to stop the coolant from leaking into the oil chamber. This was done about 7 months ago. ...There was no leaking oil at that point.
How long do most liquid sealants last? ..And would they fix an oil leak? [[Even temporarily?]]
I have a very limited budget and would like to keep the repair costs as low as possible.
All suggestions are much appreciated :]Would Steel Seal / Liquid sealants stop engine oil from leaking?
You may have damaged things by the use of ANY sealants!!! Usually, they will clog up the radiator or the heater core. BIG MISTAKE!!! Chances are that your valve cover gaskets need to be tightened down, or that your oil pressure switch has internally broken. Power wash your engine with GUNK orange and allow it to dry. Any leaks should be obvious afterwords. Liquid sealant is almost NEVER the answer. Usually, changing to a more advanced oil is the answer, preceded by a good motor flushing. This gives the properties of the advanced oils a chance to clean and lubricate. A 2002 car is worth taking care of properly. DON'T take chances like this, it is not a 70's car!! The use of a cheaper grade of oil may even cause your oil pressure relief valve ( a part of the oil pump) to stick and create too much oil pressure. READ your manual about oil specifications!!! Before you destroy this thing! Also, read the ';dexcool-settlement.com'; web-site for a few more tips.Would Steel Seal / Liquid sealants stop engine oil from leaking?
no it will not stop an oil leak that is that bad the best thing i can tell you is to check your oil filter to see if thats leaking if its from the oil pan then change the gasket they are fairly cheap usually

How do you stop the oil leak on my 1972 VW bus?
I blew the motor in my 72 bus, a 1700cc. I had a 1972 Porsche 914 with a 74 Porsche 914 2.0 motor rebuilt up to a 2.8 in it we took that motor and put it in my 1972 VW Bus.
Okay, everything worked out good, until we found that the Flywheel from the Porsche was just a little too big for the bus bell-housing. So, we switched to the buses flywheel... but the pilot bearing was trashed, we drove across town to get a new one for the bus flywheel, and got home and found it was the one for the Porsche flywheel not the bus. My boyfriend/mechanic took the bus flywheel and had the hole for the pilot bearing drilled out to fit the Porsche pilot bearing. I wasn't too keen on the idea, but I wasn't doing the work. SO, with that said... what's done is done.
Now the flywheel seal has been leaking. we reused the seal from the Porsche. It leaks, then it stops for a few days, then it starts leaking again. I went and bought both flywheel seals: one for a Porsche 914 2.0 motor and one for a 72 bus 1700 cc motor. The difference in size is only .002 of an inch or something. the VW one being the bigger one.
Anybody have any suggestions about how to stop the leaking? Other than the leak, my old bus runs like a million bucks. thanks for your time. How do you stop the oil leak on my 1972 VW bus?
This sounds like the rear seal spring has been kicked out of it's groove inside the seal. Very easy to do on the orange seal. The good news is it will go back in with a small screw driver. The bad news is you gotta take the flywheel off to do it. Your sure it is engine oil? all that ';In and Out'; can sometimes damage an old trans seal.
I had a 75 bus that didn't leak oil! So there was at least one out there that was good.
It is very important to cure an oil leak near the clutch. The leaking oil will ';mist'; its way into the friction disc and glaze it over -now that you have 1/3 more hp there that clutch is at it's max holding all ready, any oil on it will leave you stranded.
The problem with the size your working with is one seal will be .002 to tight, and the other is correct, and your using the -tight one? good- or the loose one ? will leak.- OR are you talking about the bore the seal sits in? There is one more thing--Is there an ';O'; ring in the flywheel? Did you put sealer on the flywheel where it mates to the crankshaft? Did it have a tin ';gasket'; between the flywheel and the crankshaft?
I have-- in a fit of desperation-- fit an old 40 hp trans to the 1500 fly wheel by bolting them together while the engine was running. The flywheel teeth acted like a great milling machine and cut clearances as it went. Had to watch the temp as the old trans was a pure magnesium case and should it catch fire, all bets were off.
The pilot bearing in the crankshaft? is replaced with the one for Porsche as that is what is in there? Not knowing that motor, I am presuming the trans input shaft was a good fit to the Porsche pilot bearing, and the hole that was opened up was just the access hole to the crankshaft so you could change the bearing- or does the pilot bearing actually seat in the flywheel? I would need to research that, or you can edit.
I think I have the picture- hope some of the places to look will help- I believe you can get it to dry up. Good luck. How do you stop the oil leak on my 1972 VW bus?
I'd try changing the oil and oil filter and add 1 litre of Lucas oil treatment instead of 1 of the litres of oil , it might take awhile a wk or more to notice much difference but I bet you the leak ends up stopping or slows down quite a bit over time.
Hope that helps and best of luck.Merry Xmas
You have a MECHANIC boyfriend and you ask all this here? Take the bus to a real mechanic.
By the way, nobody has ever seen 1972 VW Bus without any oil leaks...
