Could America relieve its dependence on foreign oil and stop global warming or are we all doomed?

I am tired of living in a country thats wastes all of the worlds energy and dont give me any of that ';if you dont like it you can get out'; crap because this is my country and i have the right to try and change it.......Could America relieve its dependence on foreign oil and stop global warming or are we all doomed?
Yes we can, and yes we will. There is a finite amount of fossil fuels in the world. We certainly have more (a fair bit more) then the doomsayers would have you believe, but eventually they will run out. Before they run out, the price will go up, and up, and up, until alternate clean sources of energy become marketable. This will happen, it's simple economics. In the mean time we, as a country, should be pushing to increase our domestic supply, and start now with serious research on how to create a new usable transportable source of energy. I'm personally like the idea of hydrogen burning engines. They're combustion engines like you have in your car, but they burn hydrogen, and emit water (h2o), that's their exhaust. The only trick is you need alot of electricity to separate the hydrogen from the O2 in the first place, and we don't have a safe fuel tank for transport yet. In the mean time, write your congressmen and senators, let them know this is a priority of yours and that it is a priority for our country. Talk with friends, and increase awareness. I work in the oil field, and trust me, I certainly recognize that our country, our planet needs to be thinking of the future.Could America relieve its dependence on foreign oil and stop global warming or are we all doomed?
We're only doomed if the we let it happen. This government answers to us, not the other way around!
Oh we are all doomed.
I believe there is alternative energy source especially nuclear energy if people want it. Car companies and oil companies has made people so dependent upon them and they inturn loose their identities following their greed. Governments should try their best to build infrastructure to reduce their dependency on oil.
GET OUT YOU COMMIE BASTARD

5% of the world's population using 25% of the world's oil..hah. we're so fvcked.
Canada is the U.S`s largest foreign supplier of oil. I do not see where the problem lies. They are no great threat to the country. The trade goes both ways.

Anyway, at the right price, oil companies will invest in finding new reserves. Be willing to pay a bit more or invest in local companies.

Beware of the doomsayers! They are rarely looking out for your interests, rather your wallet or obedience.
Yes , we could , but it will take more sacrifice , then most people are willing to do . It's hard having to give up a way of life that we are accustom to .
The potential is there...it's just that there isn't enough funding going into researching alternative fuels and until people start believing that global warming is real, they aren't going to do anything about it. I'm hoping that people will start to wise up and notice that the Earth is being trashed and if we don't do something about it now, we will ALL pay the price. Deforestation needs to stop, recycling programs need more funding, research (like I said already) needs to be done to find wallet friendly alternative fuels. A lot can be done people just have to be willing to do it.
Go green!
Dude, we're pretty much screwed.
