Where did he have the oil changed previously? The plug was most likely broken off at the last oil change (I don't know any other way the plug could have been damaged like that except by over tightening the plug until it sheered.).I would take the car to them with the receipt from the last service and request they fix the damage. Will Quick Change oil stops remove a broken oil plug?
I am sorry you did not provide Year Make and model plus miles. That way I could make the best suggestion. Sounds like a costly oil pan replacement. Seek Professional help from a auto mechanic...Although some like being called technicians... I am a mechanic who can work on anything... Olny if I knew what it is?
Not this one!
You can take it to a dealer and they will fix it. It will cost you a bunch of cash.
OR, you can do it yourself, a lot cheaper. The first thing you need to do is get a set of easy-outs. You can most likely f\ind them at a home improvement store like Home Depot. Drill a hole through the bolt as large as possible while being sure that you don't get into the threads on the pan. Once that is done put the easy-out in and use that to extract the broken bolt. You can use a large wrench for leverage.
good luck.
you might need a dye and tap.or drill a hole in the middle of the oil plug
As the manager of a quick Lube, it is our policy as well as most others to not mess with a damaged plug that was caused by someone else. I would suggest taking it to whomever serviced it last and demand them fix it, have your receipt in hand. If your friend was the last to service the car, take it to a reputable mechanic. It can by drilled and removed with an easy out. probably will cost around $100
