If we stop importing oil, what will the poor in the mid. east have to sell?

The ruling class will be O.K.--but the poor?If we stop importing oil, what will the poor in the mid. east have to sell?
Very little. Here again it will be the poor who suffer the most.

However, I believe most Mid. East governments have been anticipating the loss of oil revenues, and have invested a great deal in other countries, and new industries. If we stop importing oil, what will the poor in the mid. east have to sell?
camels
In order for us to stop importing oil, we need another source for crude until another realistic energy source is found, something like oil shale extraction since Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming have a huge oil shale field that represents more barrels of oil than everything in the ground in the middle east, but the hippie liberals won't allow us to build the facilities to do it. But once that happens, they will still have a customer in China, no need to worry about the poor middle east.
they can mine the steel and lead and depleted uranium that we dropped on them and sell it back to us, HE always opens a window
What they sold in the 1800's...sand. When they get tired of eating sand they can eat each other. Alas since we can not kick our insatiable addiction to the black tar slow death juice the Arabs will end up eating US.
The poor in the Middle East do not gain from the oil production. There is no democracy or even a republic in the Middle East except for Israel. Why do you think the US is over in Iraq? We want to install a free market system, you know, for big business.

Oil will start running out in the Middle East in 8 years and should be completely gone in 20. Guess what; no more terrorists, at least not from there.
To the best of my knowledge, no Arab country exports any thing that wasn't in their ground %26amp; that some one else didn't find %26amp; tell them how to get it out of the ground. Their economies would colapse without oil. If we can become less dependent on imported oil, many countries will suffer, but that is not our concern. The poor in these countries are already suffering.
thats a stupid question. the chinese will be buy it at a cheaper price and their industrialization outpaces america's, leaving the u.s. in the dust. while your country lingers in pergatory. its time to admit that you need oil to survive. oil is the source of a lot of byproducts that are needed for manufacturing production; i.e. plastics
I don't know how much of that money goes to the poor in the Mid. East. If someone is from that region, I guess they could give you a better answer.

When the U.S. invaded Iraq, we found toilets made of gold and lavish palaces that the elite lived in while the general country was in a much lower standard of living. I think that pretty much sums it up. The poor might not get anything anyway, but, of course, the rich employ the poor, so it would affect them in some way.
Er... How much money do you think the poor in the Middle East get from the oil, anyway? I think the money is primarily used to buy arms.
Oil is a fungible commodity. It won't matter to the barrel price if the USA stopped doing business with anyone in the Middle East.
sand.
Hashish, Black Tar Opium and Heroin. They are the biggest suppliers of those drugs worldwide.
Poor?....where'd you get that idea from?

The Saudi's have free hospitals, free doctors, free dental. Few are destitute, and the common class have a much higher standard of living than the poor or working poor in many other countries. Do you really think that the U.S.A. is the only country in the world buying up oil? Where will India, China, Japan, Italy etc. etc. and all other industrial nations puchase from?

THE WORLD DOES NOT BEGIN AND END WITH THE U.S. ....ya know!
If we stop importing oil, America will shut down.
I think that a good fraction of the world diamonds are mined for the Middle east, and I be live that there is tons of metal-ore in the Mountain ranges, Remember in the middle east the poor doesn't sell anything now, the powerful and rich sell the oil. Unfortunately a lot of drugs come from this area.
I dont know what else they could sell. Are there any businesses and jobs there ? Do they export anything besides oil ?

If we can make the government let our farmers grow Hemp, then we can be free and independent of any oil from anywhere....www.votehemp.com

it can make sources for our vehicles easily. Research it

7 states have made it legal, North Dakota farmer wants to be the first and has applied to do so. The government concern was it masking marijuana (could hide amongst hemp) a good farmer knows that it would taint his crop. Duh on the government. Those that do grow it anyways, should be of no concern to the government anyways they are the Dumb As*es that made alcohol legal...and its LETHAL
LOL! As if that could ever happen!
Currently the poor are not benefiting from the oil sales if they are still poor! think about it.

Seriously, look what UAE is doing. They are going to be one of the major tourist attractions in the world. They have built fabulous resorts in Dubai and Abu Dabbi. They are also becoming a major airport/hub for international travel. There are also fertile areas that can become agricultural mega players if they put their minds to it. Of course all these scenarios depend on a peaceful/stable region.
