Preludes are known for burning oil, the rings rarely last 100,000 miles on one. Things you can do:
1) Get a ring job.
2)Try a high mileage oil for a few oil changes, see if it doesn't slow it down
3) move to a higher weight oil, but you will suffer power/fuel economy wise
If it were me I would just leave it alone, buy oil in bulk and top off whenever a quart low. My corolla burns a quart every 1000 miles, I drive 1000 miles in 2 weeks, so every 2 weeks I add a quart. What can I do to slow or stop oil burn off from my Honda Prelude Vtec? -it's got 176,000 miles on it.?
it depends on the reson it is burning oil. there is this stuff u can pure in to ur oil that is suppose to help but it dont allways work. the only other way i know is to change the piston rings valve sealsWhat can I do to slow or stop oil burn off from my Honda Prelude Vtec? -it's got 176,000 miles on it.?
I'll be honest, I've never taken apart a ';normal'; engine, so I don't know how hard it is to replace the rings, but thats what you want to do. Or, burn the Honda and get an RX-7, that way its normal to burn oil and you won't feel bad about your car burning oil. Actually, you might start worrying about not burning enough oil!
Use a thicker oil with an extra dose of STP oil treatment.
Try using a can of ';Restore'; available at any parts store for a few small bucks. It will work if the oil loss is from the cylinder.
replace the rings and valve stem seals basically overhaul it !
Try some high mileage oil along with a quart of Lucas Oil Conditioner. If that doesn't suit you roll up your sleeves and put a used engine in or overhaul your own motor.
