How can I Stop the oil leak without removing the oil filter?

I have identified the source of the leak.It is coming from the point where the oil filter contacts the pipe that is connected to the engine.

Thank you very much for any help. How can I Stop the oil leak without removing the oil filter?
With oil coming from that area, you need to take the filter off and clean the mating surface. You won't stop the leak any other way. Oil is already leaking passed the gasket, when the oil get hot, it thins out substantially and the pressure that builds up once the motor is started will continue to blow oil outward. Tightening the filter at this point is too little too late. What is most likely to happen if you try and tighten the filter, is that the filter will crease do the the added stress.

1. Pull the oil filter off and let the motor drain.

2. Clean the mounting surface where the filter's gasket meeting the block.

3. Clean the oil filter's gasket.

4. Check the oil filter's threads are the clean and well grooved? Yes, continue on. No, get a new oil filter after reading step #5.

5. Check to see if the threads on the spud that the filter spins onto are damaged. NO, install the filter, spin until tight and then tighten one quarter of a turn by hand.

IF the threads are damages, get a thread die (from a tap and die set) and clean the threads before reinstalling the filter.

6. LIGHTLY, LIGHTLY, oil the gasket on the filter. Barely dip your finger in new, clean oil and gently smear it around the gasket. You do not want a puddle, just a skim coating. How can I Stop the oil leak without removing the oil filter?
Sorry but if you have an oil leak from the oil filter it needs to be fixed properly Run out of oil and you could be up for over $3000 in repairs It may well be that the old seal has been left on when the new filter was fitted
If the hole is in the pipe you refer to perhaps the pipe has been rubbed through. Hard to say for sure without more details.
