Why can't the government help us find another source of energy? The gas prices are expensive now. why can't the government help us lower the gas prices? Why doesn't the USA stop being so dependent on oil?
The government has been working to keep prices high. Haven't you heard about the efforts to drill off-shore and in Alaska being shot down by environmental extremists and their Democratic allies? When is the last time you heard of a nuclear power plant being built? Turning food, and land used to grow food into ';renewable'; energy sources may not turn out to be so bright. We've already seen the impact of that on our pocket books. (Did you know that the government subsidizes the corn to alcohol industry?) Other things will take time to develop, like decades.
Even today, there is still a hefty accumulation of taxes on gasoline that don't have to be there. State and Federal legislatures can reverse that if they wish. Why don't they? Gasoline isn't a luxury item, it is something necessary for the common man.Why doesn't the USA stop being so dependent on oil?
IT IS NOT THE GOVERNMENTS JOB TO REDUCE COSTS OR FIND NEW SOURCES OF ENERGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they only keep screwing up the economy and research and development by levying taxes and fines on it. check out what your precious government wants to do now.. institute another 40 cent per gallon tax on gas to repair our national highways....PA already charges 78 cents per gallon in taxes and our roads still suck
Too many people stand to make money in the short term off oil
Use your own oil reserves and the gas prices you are ranting about will surely drop to a cent only!...but i understand why your country is hesitant to exhaust your oil reserves---500 years or less from now all oil reserves in the middle east will be gone...just imagine what will happen to these countries whose economy is dependent on oil?...your ';suffering'; now will be a blessing later--for US of A will continue to dominate the world in another 500 years!....so, let's all exhaust the mideast oil reserves now if you dream of US's world dominion for another millennium!....lol!
mate, we are wh0res to the arab pimps
The USA did have the opportunity to do just that, but it stopped building nuclear power plants in the 1970s, thanks in large part to the efforts of environmentalists.
Too many powerful industries make money off the current petroleum centered economy. Even a no-brainer like more mass transit = less highway construction faces stiff opposition from dozens of industries dependent on the car-centric system: auto makers, insurers, glass, rubber, repair shops, rent a car, fast food, real estate development, DUI school, DUI lawyers, gas stations, auto parts stores, parking garages, and more.
Because most of the people in the upper levels of government are still making money off of oil. Only when that money runs out will they do something different.
Because for decades the oil and coal companies have dictated US energy policy to serve their own interests.
because the tree huggers would rather go fight a war in the middle east than to screw up the elk mating season in anwar, alaska. there is enough oil in anwar that we wouldn't have to import another drop of oil from saudi arabia for the next 30 years. imagine if we cut pull our troops from midde east and around the world to protect our ';interests';. if we pulled our troops home, we would save 1 trillion dollars per year. do you know how much the irs brings in every year. yep, 1 trillion dollars. sounds like a nice swap huh? imagine, stopping the hatred brought on to the US by stopping the empire we are building around the world, getting rid of the irs and getting energy independence all at once. welcome to idea of the ron paul revolution.
Yes.
BECAUSE OIL IS THE CHEAPEST AND MOST ECONOMICAL.
Alternative Sources of Energy is a BIG HOAX.
You'll find out just like I did. With Westar and Wind Power.
IT COSTS MUCH MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it should be up to the people to create alternate fuel and cars that run on it.
the government should stay out of it. why do you people always want the government to help? help yourselves damn't.
No matter what we will never be dependent on Oil it has so many uses and it will take years before we can find replacements here are its uses.
Ethane and other short-chain alkanes which are used as fuel
Diesel fuel (petrodiesel)
Fuel oils
Gasoline
Jet fuel
Kerosene
Liquid petroleum gas (LPG)
Natural gas
Generally used in transportation, power plants and heating.
Petroleum vehicles are internal combustion engine vehicles.
Certain types of resultant hydrocarbons may be mixed with other non-hydrocarbons, to create other end products:
Alkenes (olefins) which can be manufactured into plastics or other compounds
Lubricants (produces light machine oils, motor oils, and greases, adding viscosity stabilizers as required).
Wax, used in the packaging of frozen foods, among others.
Sulfur or Sulfuric acid. These are a useful industrial materials. Sulfuric acid is usually prepared as the acid precursor oleum, a byproduct of sulfur removal from fuels.
Bulk tar.
Asphalt
Petroleum coke, used in speciality carbon products or as solid fuel.
Paraffin wax
Aromatic petrochemicals to be used as precursors in other chemical production
Why can't a junkie get off heroin?
What happens when you get between a junkie and his supply?
That is not the governments job. Why don't you find a way smartass?
Ok, you go first, stop driving. Stop using electricity. The rest of us will see how you did it and copycat your efforts.
Captain Kirk and Scotty took all the Dilithium crystals when they began their voyage. We will have to wait until they return with a new source for them.
The government is NOT the source of money, even though they do print it. If they just printed up an extra hundred trillion and gave it to us, then a loaf of bread would cost $100. That was Jimmy Carter's problem, he didn't even come close to understanding how the economy worked.
It's a vicious cycle of dependence.
This seems like a logical, intelligent thing to do. You have to remember, though, that oil men run our country and have for some time now. The more the oil supply dwindles, the higher the price climbs for working people, the more money they are able to suck out of us. Eventually the lack of oil will destroy our economy. We don't just depend upon it for heat and fuel--nearly every piece of plastic crap you buy at Walmart is petroleum based. The stagnant economy we have been living with for years now is nothing compared to what lies ahead. But by then the oilmen will be have their fortunes and will be insulated against us rabble.
There HAVE been other sources found...like water engines...but either the patents get confiscated via GM (no kidding..an IMT kid created the engine) or the guy ends up dead a few days before it went to production.
Put it simply, the Government doesn't want to because they are making MASSIVE profit off of the backs of the people. It is like asking: ';Why would the politicians take money from their own pocket?'; They wouldn't ever do that.
OIL INVESTORS IN THE '; GOOD OLE USA '; never wanted us to be independent of foreign oil- THAT';S HOW THEY MAKE THEIR MILLIONS. (GOD KNOWS THAT THE OIL COMPANIES AREN';T MAKIN' A PROFIT ). THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION HAS HEAVY INVESTMENTS IN THE OIL INDUSTRY . Does '; BURGER KING '; tell ya to eat at '; PIZZA HUT '; ? WHEN YOU BUY GASOLINE, THEY GET RICH .
Because big oil is in bed with the federal government, they have some of the highest paid lobbyists in the industry and they make sure they get the results they want.
We have had the perfect opportunity during the fuel emabargo of the 1970's and blew it. That should have been the final straw. After the fuel embargo of the 1970's Brazil found alternate energy sources for fuel and now they aren't as dependent on foreign oil as we are.
The second reason is our material capitalist lifestyle, where advertisers convince us that we need that SUV or sports car so our neighbors won't laugh at us or think poorly of us.
