How to stop oil leak from 1984 chevy 350 valve covers?

There is already a lot of good advice here. Another thing you can consider is buying a pair of aftermarket aluminum valve covers. You can sometimes fine them used really cheap. They are much stiffer than the thin stock steel ones and they seal better.

If you keep the old ones, be sure the gasket surface is nice and flat. If they have been over-tightened, they bolt holes can be bent in, and then they never seal right. If that is the case, you can just tap them flat with a body hammer. Also, if there are spreaders under the head of the bolt, make sure they are flat too. Usually the valve covers just need to be tightened up a little bit. If the engine is new or the gaskets have been replaced recently the gasket will sort of shrink a little and this will make them leak. You will not need to make them real tight, just snug them up good and you should be fine and you will probably never have to worry about it again. If this doesn't work, then you will probably need to replace the valve cover gaskets - which is very easy and cheap to do. Just try tightening them first. If they are already good and snug, don't try to make them real tight - go ahead and replace the gasket. How to stop oil leak from 1984 chevy 350 valve covers?
spend 20 bucks get new gaskets and some blue Silicone remove the ten or so blots lift valve cover off scrape off old gasket put on silicone thinly and wait five minutes put on gasket slide back in place tighten the nuts down with nut driver not much more than hand tight over tight will smash gasket or bend cover and you leak wil be still there
4 bolt valve covers on the Chevy engines are notorious for leaking. I would get rid of the cork gaskets, clean the head and the valve cover really well and install a bead of good RTV Silicone.
replace the old valve cover gaskets.
replace it, gunk it, torque it, drive it.
change the gasket or try and snug the pan bolts down some.
