I have a dodge caravan and the car started to leak oil. I took it to aamco and the guy said he would fix the axle leak and the pan to see if it would stop leaking because the oil was coming out the filler pipe. But apparently it didnt work because oil is still coming out and i guess the only way to get the fixed would be a new transmission. If i put stop leak in the car how long would it last.If i put stop leak in my car to stop the transmission from leaking oil how long will the car last?
The only time I would ever put any of that stop leak crap in a car was if the car was worth less than $800. No one in their right mind would buy a car with that stuff in it, and no shop will want to rebuild it because of all the damage stop leak does. Get it fixed the right way, technicians don't come in bottles. If i put stop leak in my car to stop the transmission from leaking oil how long will the car last?
I am no mechanic, but I think that the transmission does not leak oil, it would leak transmission fluid, which is generally red, so it can be distinguished from oil.
I would respectfully like to say that you may have reached the point where getting rid of your vehicle may be more practical than continuing to put more money into it.
Instant fixes in a bottle are generally never an answer to any problem. They simply create their own problems on the long term.
If you've got a large leak from somewhere like your dipstick tube, no leak sealer in a bottle is going to fix that.
I'm not familiar with the specific application, but I would think there is a grommet and/or gasket that could be replaced for the mating of the tube and transaxle case without replacing the entire transmission as you were told. Unless of course, the transmission is getting problematic...whereas that makes a whole new case for either a new transmission or new vehicle.
do not put stop leak in your transmission!!!!!!!
if it leaking out of the filler tube you might just need to replace the seal. but slop leak is mostly for radiators . and not all tranys have red fluids. some take light oils
