Do you think that our politicians should pass a law to stop speculation on future oil prices?

With Memorial Day coming up and summer the cost of gas keeps going up and up. What do you think about the oil companies using ';speculation'; as a reason to hike prices?

Isn't that the one of the main reasons prices are going up?Do you think that our politicians should pass a law to stop speculation on future oil prices?
I'm not sure ';speculation'; is even the word for what goes on.

Deliberate acts by a monopoly to get what they want is probably more like it.

Deliberately not increasing production of a needed product to run up the price under the so called ';Supply and Demand'; factor just doesn't cut it with me.

I would like to see the oil companies maintenance records as well.

We are being fed so much crap......its unbelievable.

Isn't it great to be held hostage by one single commodity in America?

We are not only paying at the pump, but in EVERYTHING we purchase.

Greed is destroying America, and the fat cats could care less. No laws that could ever be passed that would be very effective when you have politicians being paid off with swiss bank accounts to vote in ';favor'; of big oil or any other commodity.Do you think that our politicians should pass a law to stop speculation on future oil prices?
I agree. We need to do away with the speculation factor.
Why stop there when we can tell Wal Mart how much to pay for their insurance, I think Gap prices should be frozen,

cars should be sold at cost %26amp; etc., etc. Wait is that not comminism when the goverment controls business.

In a republic, consumers do not buy if they do not like the prices - try walking, a bicycle or even a horse. The solution is not to run businesses through legislation.
No. If they did that, would they not have to include all future speculations with regards to other items as well?
No, government should stay out of it.

Sometimes the free market comes with a price... But, I would rather live in a free market then have a government controlled economy. Just think, if the electric companies had some real competition maybe prices would be lower.

So the best solution, get government out of it!... and I mean all of it! Like not allowing any more oil refineries to be built. Or not allowing oil to be drilled in the gulf, or in Alaska or in the Rockies. The real reason we are paying so much is supply and demand. Demand is going up, and supply ';appears'; to be going down. (its not really going down that much, but that is what they want you to think.)

If it were a free market and we were allowed to drill our own oil then prices would drop. I blame the government for putting restrictions on the industry and not allowing nuclear power plants.
Do you think our politicians run the world?

Oil is an international commodity, trading occurs all over the world.

WOuld you like us to start a war so you can have your basic human right of cheap fuel?

The amount of ignorance some people display concerning basic economics is amazing to me, and then they open their mouths about it so the world will know, AMericans are ignorant

and want mommy government to take care of them
