Why would my aunt's oil and gas royalties stop ?

My aunt receives oil and gas royalities, and usually when the price of oil goes up, so do the amounts of her checks. But in the last 3 months, when oil has been the highest ever, she has received only one check from one company, and it was only $25. Why are her other checks not coming and why was that one so small?Why would my aunt's oil and gas royalties stop ?
